This guide covers both sides, because knowing whether you are a candidate matters more than knowing how the treatment works.
Not all dark or tired-looking under eyes come from the same cause, and only some respond to filler.
A simple check: look in a mirror in good light and tilt your chin up. If the shadow lightens as the angle changes, volume loss is likely a factor and filler may help. If the darkness stays constant regardless of angle, pigmentation is more likely the cause, and a different approach makes more sense.
Under eye filler, often called tear trough filler, uses hyaluronic acid gel to restore volume beneath the eye, softening the transition between the lower eyelid and cheek.

The goal is a subtle reduction in shadowing, not a dramatic change. Conservative placement matters enormously here. According to the Canadian Dermatology Association, facial volume loss is a normal part of aging affecting multiple areas, and treating the under eye in isolation sometimes produces a less natural result than addressing adjacent midface volume as well.

Treatment typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Topical numbing is applied first, since this area is more sensitive than lips or cheeks.
Mild swelling or bruising is common and usually settles within a few days to a week. Results are visible fairly quickly, though the product continues settling over roughly two weeks. Judging your result at day three is premature.
The under eye is among the most technically demanding filler areas. The skin is thin, the anatomy is unforgiving, and poor placement shows.
Conservative dosing, appropriate product selection, and a practitioner willing to stage treatment across visits rather than overfilling in one session all reduce risk. Can under eye filler be dissolved? Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if needed, which is one reason they are preferred for this delicate area.
