Post-treatment care in Vancouver is one of the most overlooked parts of any aesthetic treatment plan. The procedure itself takes an hour. What you do in the days after determines how well you heal, how long results last, and how comfortable your recovery feels.
This guide covers aftercare for the most common treatments at First Avenue Medical Spa. Bookmark it before your next appointment.
Medical spa treatments work by triggering your body’s natural healing and collagen response. That process continues for days or weeks after you leave the clinic.
If you disrupt it by using the wrong products, getting too much sun, or working out too soon, you slow healing and reduce your results. Good aftercare protects the investment you just made.
Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin need 24 to 48 hours to begin settling into the muscle. For the first 24 hours:
Most patients see initial results within three to five days. Full results typically appear at two weeks. If something does not look right at two weeks, contact the clinic, not at day three.
For more detail, read our full Botox aftercare guide.
Filler aftercare is similar to Botox with a few additions. Swelling and mild bruising are normal for the first 48 to 72 hours, particularly with lip fillers.
If you notice asymmetry after two weeks, book a follow-up. Minor adjustments are common and expected at your two-week check.
Laser hair removal targets the hair follicle. The skin around it experiences controlled heat, which requires gentle care in the days following.
For a full eight-step aftercare plan, see our laser hair removal aftercare guide.
A chemical peel removes the outer layer of skin to reveal smoother, clearer skin beneath. That means the new skin underneath is temporarily more sensitive and vulnerable.
The Canadian Dermatology Association recommends consulting a qualified practitioner before any chemical peel and following their specific post-peel protocol.
Microneedling creates thousands of micro-channels in the skin. Your skin will look pink or red for 24 to 48 hours, similar to a sunburn. This is normal and expected.
Most patients notice a visible glow within a few days. Deeper collagen improvements build over six to eight weeks and continue with subsequent sessions.
Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy, so it goes deeper than standard microneedling. Recovery is slightly longer.
Final results from Morpheus8 develop gradually over three to six months as collagen rebuilds. Read more about the Morpheus8 treatment process.
Regardless of which treatment you had, these apply across the board:
Most post-treatment experiences are normal. Contact First Avenue Medical Spa if you notice:
Do not rely on online forums for medical advice about your skin. Your practitioner can assess what is happening and advise you accurately.
It depends on the treatment. Botox and filler injections typically produce minimal redness that resolves within a few hours. Laser treatments and microneedling can cause redness for 24 to 72 hours. Morpheus8 may produce visible redness for up to five days. Your practitioner will give you a specific timeline at your appointment.
After injectables like Botox or fillers, it is generally fine to apply makeup gently after a few hours, as long as you avoid massaging the area. After laser, microneedling, chemical peels, or Morpheus8, wait at least 24 hours and use only clean, fragrance-free products when you resume.
Any treatment that affects the skin temporarily increases photosensitivity. New or healing skin is more vulnerable to UV damage, which can cause hyperpigmentation and slow healing. The Canadian Dermatology Association recommends daily broad-spectrum SPF 30 as the most important step in any post-treatment routine.
For most injectables, 24 hours is sufficient. For laser, microneedling, and Morpheus8, 48 hours is the standard recommendation. Strenuous exercise raises your core temperature and blood pressure, which can increase swelling and bruising in the early healing phase.
