IPL Photorejuvenation

Take your skin to new heights and free your face from unwanted spots.

Have you ever wanted to press the reset button on your skin? With IPL photo rejuvenation treatments from the First Ave Medical Spa, you can do exactly that. In just a few sessions, clients see a clear difference with their skin and the appearance of dark spots and other marks left by sun damage diminish.

IPL Photo Rejuvenation delivers long-term results, without you needing to apply any chemical-based products to your face. This treatment can also boost the overall appearance of your skin and help restore a radiant complexion while kickstarting the production of collagen again in your face.

How It Works

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. The light is passed through a rectangular-shaped crystal into the target area, reaching deep within the skin. During the treatment, the device is gently pressed onto the skin while the light is emitted onto the specific areas that are being targeted. Any tissue that is damaged will be naturally disposed of by the body.

IPL Photo Rejuvenation is also known by many as the ‘photo facial’. It uses targeted light energy to banish dark spots on the face that can be triggered by overexposure to the sun, broken blood vessels and ageing. It stimulates the production of collagen in the skin; enlarged pores will appear visibly smaller and fine lines on the face will become less apparent.

The overall process is quick and usually takes around 30 minutes to complete a single session. In almost all cases, a course of treatment is best, with most clients undertaking between 3-5 sessions depending on their precise concerns and individual skin condition.

There is a range of problems that can be effectively treated using the IPL photo rejuvenation treatment, these include:

    •  Acne

    •  Rosacea

    •  Pigmentation Issues

    •  Dark Spots / Sun Spots

    •  Fine Lines

    •  Dilated / Broken Blood Vessels

    •  Uneven Skin Tone

    •  Freckles

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Because the light that is used bypasses the upper layers of the skin and works below the surface, this exposes the cells that are known as fibroblasts and helps them to produce collagen. This improves the overall tone and texture of the skin while helping to keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay.

You will feel a very slight stinging with each pulse of light that is delivered to the target area. It is not described as painful, but more of a mild level of discomfort. It is very tolerable, and as time progresses, the treatments become more comfortable. Because it is a quick treatment that typically takes between 30-60 minutes, the level of discomfort is highly tolerable, and the discomfort is immediately eased as soon as the treatment is complete.

Every client we treat will have a unique set of skin concerns to address. As such, the time each treatment will take varies from one person to another. The size and severity of the treatment area will both indicate how long the IPL photo rejuvenation treatment will take.

On average, a typical session of IPL photo rejuvenation will take between 30-60 minutes, and three-five sessions are considered optimal in order to achieve the desired results.

The majority of clients need a series of treatments in order to effectively target their individual skin concerns. Treatments are usually spaced 4 weeks apart, and the response of the skin following each treatment will vary from person to person. The more damaged your skin, the more treatments you are likely to need.

You can expect to see a normal and graded level of clearing over the course of your treatment. Lesions will start to appear clearer within a month, and dark spots will require a course of treatment in order for you to be able to see visible results.

The skin may appear to be slightly reddish in the immediate 30-60 minutes after the IPL photo rejuvenation treatment. You can wear makeup immediately after the treatment if you wish as long as the application and removal process is gentle.

For clearing freckles and age spots, the area may appear to be darker for up to 7 days following the treatment.

The length of time the results last for can depend on a number of factors, the most important of which is how much you expose your skin to the sun. For instance, if you are exposed to the sun and do not use sunscreen, then you will start to see the spots return far quicker than if you do not overexpose and you regularly use a sunscreen with at least 30SPF.

Because IPL photo rejuvenation is attracted to the pigment within the skin, it is important to try not to tan before your appointment. It is highly advised to wear a sunscreen of at least 30SPF and arranging your appointment for when you are in a pre-tan state. This helps you get the optimal results from your appointment and limits the likelihood of any unwanted side-effects.

Following an IPL photo rejuvenation treatment, clients should expect a temporary darkening of brown spots or freckles, along with a slight to moderate redness. The best way to limit the likelihood of any other side-effects is by taking precautions with your skin in the sun both before and after your treatment session takes place.

Other potential, but very rare side-effects are reported in the industry as bruising, swelling, and discolouration of the skin. In very rare cases, there have been reports of blistering or scarring.
