Acupuncture is a centuries old healing therapy that has been practiced throughout Asia for thousands of years. It cures/prevents illness by regulating and normalizing a person’s healthy function. Thin needles are inserted into specific points on the energetic pathways, or meridians, to restore the patient’s balance. According to ancient theories, disease is thought to occur when the body’s balance is disrupted.

At First Ave Medical Spa, acupuncture treatments are performed by a registered Acupuncturist Marianna Tchitchkina, R.Ac.

The insertion of the acupuncture needles feels like a mosquito bite; it lasts only a fraction of a second and leaves no mark. Once the needles are in place, the patient generally feels a sense of well-being and relaxation.

One of the most striking aspects of acupuncture is the almost complete absence of adverse effects and complications from its use. Most patients find that the treatments are relaxing and cause minimal discomfort. Acupuncture is a safe technique, provided that practitioners are properly trained and follow appropriate techniques. Trained practitioners of acupuncture use single-use, sterile disposable needles and have been trained regarding precautions and contraindications to acupuncture.

It is important to inform the practitioner of your medical history, medications and if you are pregnant or could possibly be pregnant, as acupuncture treatment may have to be modified or may not be appropriate.
